NAGARMOTHA (CYPRIOL) | Essential Oil
Pure Cyperus scariosus essential oil.
Cypriol oil is extracted from Cyperus scariosus, also known by its Hindi name Nagarmotha, a type of sedge in the Cyperaceae family. It is a perennial herbaceous riverbed plant native to India's Madhya Pradesh state, closely related to Cyperus papyrus, the plant from which the earliest type of paper was made. The plant is mentioned in the ancient Ayurvedic medicine texts, and is used extensively in traditional Chinese medicine and perfumery. It has a rich, woody-earthy, and very tenacious odour with smokey and leathery nuances.
It is traditionally used in aromatherapy to improve circulation, promote peace of mind and encourage calm and restful sleep, and in perfumery as a substitute for patchouli. Like vetiver, it has been used in India to scent saris and other clothing.
