This fragrant spirit was first conjured at the dawn of the 2021 Winter Solstice. Call forth some warmth and douse yourself in the magic of a serene, golden-hued winter forest.

Boughs of bended branches, bowed and powdered in crystalline mounds that reflect the rising sun. The chilled, odorous aura of the morning thaw, when golden sap begins its languorous dribble down the pock-marked surfaces of ancient trees, and twigs snap beneath the weight of life softly stirring. Bushel-fulls of tart forest berries; holly, juniper, currants and yew, peppering the needle-strewn earth, like garnet confetti scattered on the snow in celebration of the Deer Mother’s life-sustaining procession through the dark Solstice night.

With the life-giving light of the sun wreathed within the confines of her generous antlers, the Deer Mother returns the sun and its warmth to the creatures of North once a year on the longest night—the Winter Solstice. Or so the legends say, recorded through carvings, textiles, and ink.

Because of this, as well as the female reindeers' role of leading her pack (and, by extension, the nomadic folks whose livelihood depend on them) through the harsh winter season, she has long been revered as a spiritual figure of life and warmth, fertility and motherhood, regeneration and rebirth.

Still today, figures crowned with antlers are embroidered into ceremonial cloth, fashioned into ornaments, and emblazoned across cards to thank her for returning the sun to the North—an image which, although occasionally warped or transformed, is woven throughout solstice, Yule, and Christmas traditions.

Impressions: a warm, wood-driven scent with a crisp winter air opening. Sticky, peppery notes and sparkling alpine evergreen needles. Thawing sap and the uncovering of the cold ground from beneath its frosted blanket. Moss-laden bark and barren branches.
